Welcome, everyone, to MoonBlood Jewelry, and thank you for taking the time to explore the page and learn about who I am.
My name is Kara and I have been fascinated with jewelry and gems since I can remember. Some of my first memories are sitting in the living room of my grandmother’s house, poring over her boxes of jewelry that she very patiently allowed me to dig through. I would sit there for hours untangling necklaces, pairing up and re-matching various sets of clip-on earrings, trying on every single one of her rings to see if any of them finally fit, and placing them all back inside their boxes so that the next time I was there I could do it all over again.
Sometimes, my mother would take me into our tiny little town to Alford’s antique store. Mr. Alford didn’t like anyone who wasn’t spending money. I was probably only 5 or 6 years old, so I certainly didn’t have any, but Mrs. Alford, his wife, was beyond patient with me. She would pull out every single tray of costume jewelry and let me touch and look at whatever I wanted. It was heaven. If, by chance, I was ever given an allowance to spend, I would almost certainly spend all of it on the biggest, gaudiest, most sparkly brooch or necklace I could afford.
I’ve never been much of an understated type of person, and I can remember even going to pre-school decked out in ALL of my costume jewelry. I would wear all of it all day. All fifteen or so necklaces, three brooches, and however many rings I could fit on my tiny fingers. I would even keep it on during nap time. I like to think I was a little kid Mr. T. My mother and her best friend who owned the pre-school always let me express myself however I wanted, and I will be forever grateful for that.
Eventually, my love of all things glitter and gold evolved into becoming absolutely fascinated with rocks and minerals. Until the age of about 15 I wanted nothing more than to be an archeologist so that I could find the fossils I had been collecting for myself. Most, if not all, of the science fairs I participated in usually had something to do with rocks and minerals, but mostly, I just wanted to show off my collection of raw quartz, rubies, and emeralds.
Fast forward to now. I have always wanted to make jewelry of my own so that I can share my love of these beautiful earth treasures with everyone. I have transformed a room in my house into a working jewelry studio, and I can spend hours in there pairing up different jewels and crystals to make something beautiful. I have always found joy in being around jewelry and I hope to pass that on to you as well.
I was born under a dark moon, at 7pm, on a summer night. I’ve always been a night owl by nature. All of the jewelry you see here has been lovingly crafted with the best intentions under the light of our moon.
